nbc 10 breaking news. that breaking news, a deadly crash in vineland involving a salt truck. we'll tell you what happened and how to avoid the traffic mess. and a five-car crash on i-95 in philadelphia leaves one person dead and sends four others to the hospital. they came into this building as champions. they're going to leave as champions. >> a late-night loss for st. joe's has the team heading home instead of advancing to the sweet 16. 6:00 a.m., good morning, it's "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm vai sikahema. spring is here. >> so is snow. >> first full week of spring, sure doesn't feel like spring. maybe later in the week it will start feeling more springy. >> tracy looks like she's in shock.

later this week it will start feeling and looking more like spring. most of the area really clearing up today from the early snow. but we do have it hugging the shore. in delaware along the beaches here, it's moving out. it's movining quick now, gettin out of the area. atlantic city, ocean city, seeing the light snow falling, ill up towards beach haven. this is clearing out quickly and it's clearly just along the shore. still in ocean county along the shore. it will be moving out within the next 20 minutes or so. we should see it really leaving the area. but what's left behind, wet roadways, even some slippery roadways, especially where we had the snow this morning. 35 degrees in philadelphia right now. 29 in doylestown, 28 in pottstown. it's getting colder. you'll want the heavy coat this morning. 33 cape may point and along the shore where we're still seeing light snow, cape may courthouse coming in at 32 degrees in this

area. woodbine coming in at 32 degrees. slick spots possible and through parts of atlantic county like summer's point, 31 degrees. be careful as you're driving. slippery roadways out there. we take a look at the afternoon forecast. windy but warmer as we go through the week. let's get a check of the roads this morning with jessica boyington. >> we're watching ramp restrictions onç 95 around bro street. you can see the off ramp right in this direction. we have vehicles blocking that off right now, headed southbound on 95. let's get another view of that right now. little bit of a shaky camera, you can see we do have that emergency crew heading to the scene right now. then it's up here, of course, the camera is shaky. maybe it's windy in that particular spot or this camera is coming loose. broad street an 95 headed southbound. on vineland, accident on route 55 southbound around route 56. delays there. just because they were only letting the right-hand shoulder.

it's better than earlier, because we had that all closed. take delsea drive. that's your best bet to get through. breaking news we've been following for you all morning long. one person is dead after crashing their car into the back of a salt truck in vineland, cumberland county. >> katy zachry is live for us with more on a crash investigation. what have you learned? >> reporter: well, we know, as tracy said, one person is dead as a result of this crash. the other driver involved is injured at a local hospital this morning. we are still working to find out if this crash was weather related. it happened around 2:30 this morning. i can tell you as we were driving to the scene around 2:30 along route 55 southbound, it was snowing. again, we don't know if snow or weather was a factor in this crash. let's go to video that we were able to get really pretty close to the scene where these two cars crashed earlier this morning around 2:30, right along route 55 near the exit for route 56. state police say a sedan crashed

with a salt truck in this area. the driver of the sedan was killed. the salt truck driver was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. we understand he is still there. just in the last few minutes his salt truck which was stopped on the side of the road along the shoulder was towed by a tow truck and removed from the scene. now, at the height of this there was about a mile of stopped traffic along route 55 because of this. but about an hour after the crash happened, crews were able to re-open the shoulder so traffic could get by around the scene. i'm seeing behind me now, it looks like all lanes of route 55 have re-opened right around route 56 where this deadly crash happened. we'll have another update for you in about 25 minutes. reporting live in vineland, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. meantime, investigators are checking to see if slick roads played a role in this deadly accident. five vehicles were involved in this accident around 11:00 at the broad street entrance to northbound 95.

one man was killed. four other people went hot top the with injuries. the road re-opened around 3:00 a.m. wetç roads and a dusting o snow, that's what most people are waking up to across the region. in camden county, big flakes were coming down in cherry hill overnight. it didn't stick. the snow has moved out. a similar scene in delaware county. that's where nbc 10's matt delucia is this morning. what are you seeing? >> vai and tracy, more snow in south jersey than where we are right now. we're right by villanova university and just take a look at lancaster avenue right now. vehicles are out here, wet roads. we haven't seen too many slick spots. we had a coating of snow that fell overnight but take a look at video that we shot within the past couple of hours. you can see snow fluttering to the ground in hatboro, the streets there are wet as well. and also take a look at a car dealership in warminster, bucks county, a little bit of snow,

that dusting on the cars there as well. take a look live once again here in villanova where we see pretty much the same thing, just that light coating, light dusting of snow on the cars, on the windshields really. the unpaved grassy surfaces have that coating for the most part. the asphalt doesn't have a coat of snow on, at least not what we've seen out here this morning. always a good idea with cold temperatures. you do want to bundle up out here, even though it is spring. be careful on the roads out there this morning. matt delucia, nbc 10 news. in montgomery county, here's the app. we wa we want to tell you about, get hourly forecasts, seven-day forecasts, and interactive radar. that's on our nbc 10 app. aids a free download. new information on this house fire in delaware, chester county. a man pulled from a burning home

by firefighter has died. they firefighters were called to concord avenue on 5th street around 1:00 a.m. monday. firefighters used a bucket ladder to get a man out of the house and he died at the hospital. this fire destroyed a row home in philadelphia's brewerytown neighborhood. as you can see, firefighters had to deal with heavy smoke and flames. no one was hurt. investigators are now looking into the cause. 6:07. pennsylvania turnpike officials say security will be a top priority after a deadly robbery attempt involving a retired state trooper. it all went down at the fort littleton interchange. briggs tried to tie two people up, they broke free. just then a van coming to collect money from the office got çthere. a security guard in the van joined one of the collectors to confront briggs. he shot and killed both of them.

the driver of the van ran away and briggs jumped inside. responding trooper shot and killed briggs as he was trying to dump the stolen cash from the van into his car. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. well, good monday morning. some parts of the area still seeing the snow lingering. all of us pretty much are dry right now. still wet roads. now we're looking at cape may county. the snow is holding on. it will quickly move offshore. wildwood right on the edge of it. it will be ending for you very soon. atlantic city still seeing the light snow falling. through ocean county, just hugging the coastline. this will be moving offshore within 20 minutes or so. the rest of the area clear but the roads are wet. now keep in mind, temperatures are at or below freezing through some spots. we could be looking at icy spot

s potentially. 31 wrightstown, 32 trenton, philadelphia mid-30s. lehigh valley this morning, if you're about to walk outside, you're below freezing. 29 in allentown, 28 quakertown and pottstown. 30 degrees in reading. where we saw the snow for a good portion of this morning already, we're at freezing. 32 woodbine, 32 atlantic city airport. 32 in millville. most of the snow was melting as it was falling. in some spots we may see slippery spots out there. be careful if you're driving. future weather really clears us out and tens to move the clouds out as we go through this morning. for new jersey and delaware, for today, a side from light snow lingering right along the shore, we'll see conditions greatly improve. by 9:00 a.m., 38 degrees, philadelphia area by 9:00 a.m., 40 degrees. by 11:00 a.m., mid-40s. a lot more in the way of sunshine this afternoon. it will be windy, too. the lehigh valley, 9:00, temperatures upper 30s. by 11:00 a.m., 43 degrees.

coming up, teal take a look at the forecast for this afternoon and also nice warmup as we go through this week. that's straight ahead. we look forward to that warmup, sheena. thank you. let's get a look at the roads. >> including 95. jessica boyington has that. >> we are watching this accident scene that's blocking the off ramp to 95 right around broad street. you can see this accident scene with police activity as well. completely blocking the off ramp. let's get another view of it as well. i'll have it in one of our other cameras also. that delay, a short delay. you can see the lights flashing up here over in the right-hand corner of the screen.ç not a huge delay yet. it will get there, of course. it's getting closer to the volume on 95. 95 southbound around broad street. you'll start to see delays an a problem because no one can get off the off ramp. as for vineland, that accident scene, all lanes have re-opened.

that's a good update here. you won't have problems getting through 55 right now. maybe still an investigation under way with police still on the scene. but it is 55 southbound around route 56. if you want to be safe, take delsea drive. no problems on delsea. one philadelphia team is left in the tournament after a heartbreaking loss. >> we battled through it, we surprised a lot of people. we all left it out there and we came up short. >> hear more emotional reaction after a late-night loss for st. joe's. plus, this -- [ applause ] villanova still dancing. live this morning on campus talking about how sweet it is to still be alive in the tournament.

just about 6:15. a live look now on the left-hand side. that's cape may right there. first alert radar showing most of the snow is in south jersey and delaware. first alert meteorologist sheena parveen says it's moving out, going to pin point when it will be gone for good for all of the region coming up in about five minutes. >> it was so close. st. joe's quest for the sweet 16 is over. >> the margin in these games are so height -- tight. the hawks stayed in the lead but the late turnover put the ducks ahead, winning 69-64. here's st. joe's reaction to this heartbreaking loss. >> i blame this all on me, even though coach don't want me to say that. i can't turn the ball over at the end of the game. >> everybody made mistakes during the game. that last one is not his fault. we're sticking together.

>> let's check in with jessica boyington for a look at 95. >> 95 because we delays behind an accident scene around broad street. it is blocking off the ramp from 95 southbound to broad street. it looks like they are allowing some cars to move through. that is over into the right-hand shoulder, still partially blocking some of the ramp as well. here's another view of that. this scene is up in this direction, you can kind of see the flashing lights, but approaching the scene, a slow go right now, especially since there's one car at a time being let through that off ramp. also there's an accident in upper merion, montgomery county, south gulph road. here's the blue route, we're looking okay. no problems headed southbound. on the drive time from the schuylkill to 95, a 15-minute trip with speeds gninto the 60s. i'll check in with vineland when i come back in the next ten minutes. now your nbc 10 first alert

tr(tc sheena parveen. >> well, the area's having seen the snow this morning is quickly on its way out. but there you see it, most of us are dry this morning. but cold, cape may county, the snow has quickly moved out right offshore of strathmere. dry in cape may county. ocean city, light snow flakes, atlantic city, seeing that light snow. that extends up through parts of brigantine, also near ship bottom and ocean county. still seeing the light snow, hugging the shore. it is quickly moving away. the brunt of this storm is in new england and we'll continue to clear as we go through today. wet roadways out there, especially in new jersey and delaware where we had the snow this morning. a lot of it was mostly melting. temperatures are at freezing in atlantic city. officially at the atlantic city international airport, half an inch of snow. not very impressive but as it fell, it was accumulating mostly on the grass. 32 degrees, 32 in millville. again, icy spots. we can't rule it out this

morning. mt. holly, 32. philadelphia, 35. areas north and west, below freezing. upper 20s if you're about to step outside. for this morning, as far as the roads are concern, mostly wet. some slick spots. we cannot rule that out. accumulations, little to none. mostly on the grass. the timing sending right now. gradual clearing as we go through the rest of the day today. here's future weather, clearing for pretty much everybody as we go towards noon today, more sunshine developing by lunch time, mid-40s and we'll see winds increasing, too. it will be a windy, chilly day. 5:00 this afternoon, topping out in the upper 40s. tomorrow morning, it will be cold again. we have the northwest wind. freezing temperatures in the forecast for your tuesday morning. remember that before you head out. then as we go through the week, this is the warmup we've been telling you about as we go into thursday, sunshine temperatures near 70 degrees. by thursday. but then by the end of the week, spring showers move in, rainy

today apple will introduce new products. experts say don't expect anything revolutionary. instead, lack for a cheaper, smaller 4 inch version of the 6s phones. it may be called the iphone se. tech experts don't expect a new apple watch either. we could see new apple watch accessories and bands and an updated ipad air. iphone 7 is expected to be announced in september. general mills says it will start labeling all its products in the u.s. that contain genetically modified organ sism. the maker of cheerios, progresso soups and yoplait say it's impossible to label products for just one state. here's a sign of spring from the nation's capital, the famed cherry blossom trees are

his historic meeting. president obama will meet one-on-one with cuban president raul castro today. how safe is your watter? that's the question philadelphia city leaders will be asking today. good morning, welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm vai sikahema. >> i'm tracy davidson. 36 degrees outside. the snow is moving out. let's get an update on where it is right now with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> we don't like saying that word when we're in spring. yes, this morning we saw the snow around. it is quickly leaving new jersey and delaware the last ones to see it and the ones who saw the most. cape may county, you have already cleared out of the snow. you're starting to see the clouds break. in atlantic county, atlantic city could be holding on to light snowfall as it stretches into parts of ocean county along the beaches here. this is all moving out very quickly. we'll see big improvements as we go through the next 20 minutes or so. rest of the area nice and dry. wet roads from this morning and temperatures are cold. we could be seeing slick spots,

city is typically where we see delay in the morning. here's an accident scene in upper merion on south gulph road and bill smith boulevard. staying with that breaking news out of vineland this morning, one person is dead after crash nag a salt truck on route 55. >> nbc 10's katy zachry is live on scene. how is traffic moving now, katy? >> well when we were doing our live a few moments ago, the tow truck was just behind me. take a look at the video we got. state police on the scene say a sedan crashed with a salt truck around 2:30 this morning right

near the exit for landis avenue. we done the know if the weather was a factor. as we were driving southbound on route 55 to get to the scene, i can tell you it was light to moderate snow coming down. investigators tell us the driver of the sedan was killed at the scene. the salt truck driver received minor injuries and is recovering at a nearby hospital. just to recap, for hours, traffic was really down to a standstill, all lanes southbound were closed along route 55 just before the exit for route 56, landis avenue. in the last half hour, everything has cleared. reporting live in vineland, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. >> thanks for the update. 6:3. as first alert meteorologist sheena parveen has been saying all morning long, most of the spring snow is in jersey and delaware. >> you might be waking up to wet roads in pennsylvania. matt delucia with us.

>> the asphalt and paved surfaces don't look too bad right now. just wet at the moment. we have seen a couple salt trucks move their way through here, lancaster avenue within the past couple of hours making sure that things are in tip-top shape for folks heading out this morning. montgomery county, we'll take a look at hatboro where we saw snow falling on york road and take a look now, burlington county, over the bridge in new jersey, snow on the cars. we had wet streets between woodland road and springside road, all within the pas(o few hours. finally we wrap up with wilmington in delaware. we also saw people there walking on north market street near 7th street. not a lot of snow, just wet grounds. as we take another look, this is what people are waking up to this morning. the temperatures really dipped as sheena has been talking about. we saw the snow, the moisture,

the rain that fell has started to form ice. you see some of the glaze on the wind shield of this jeep. we might have to get the ice scraper. earlier it was just a snow brush. now it's the scraper. we have ice forming on the hard surfaces. live at villanova, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. the same nor'easter expected to drop six inches of snow on massachusetts today. boston's mayor has already canceled school. this is a look at plymouth, massachusetts, many where it could snow an inch an hour through the morning. find the hourly forecast on our nape app. the seven-day forecast and interactive radar as well. now to breaking news we've been following for you. north korea fired a miss nooyl the waters off its east coast. that's according to south korea's largest news agency. the report says north korea also fired several other short-range

projectiles in the sea. the launches come as south korea and the u.s. conduct an annual military drill. and this morning, president obama will be waking up in cuba, the first u.s. president to do so in nearly a century. the first family arrived in havana yesterday. for an historic three-day visit. they took a tour in the rain and had dinner a working class neighborhood at a family owned restaurant. today, president obama will meet with raul castro and also cuban business leaders. the president's strip highlights a restart in relations between the u.s. and cuba. now to decision 2016. reports say republican presidential front-runner donald trump will meet with gop leaders in the nation's capital today. trump is also expected to speak at the american israeli policy group. meantime, the fbi is looking into threats against donald trump's sister and one of his sons. sources tell nbc news mary yan trump berry received a death threat in the mail. she's a federal judge in philadelphia. she got the letter the day after

eric trump received an envelope with white powder which turned out to be harmless. the threats follow a wave of protest and some violence at donald trump's rallies. the newly captured suspect in the paris terror attacks may have been planning more violence. that's according to officials in brussels. they say salah abdeslam who was arrested in a raid involving gunfire and explosions may have been planning another attack.ç investigators also say he has knowledge about the paris massacre last november. that may be crucial. a philadelphia police officer is recovering from minor injuries after being hurt chasing down a robbery suspect. police say the suspect held up conchetta's pizza in tacony last night. the suspect put up a fight and the officer broke a ankle. the suspect was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. now your nbc 10 first alert

weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >>s a cold start through the area. you'll want the heavy jacket this morning. radar is mostly clear now. the snow we had along the jersey shore and the delaware beaches quickly has moved out. that's good timing for the main part of the morning commute. we're getting cold through most of the area. we're looking at cape may, atlantic county where the snow has moved offshore. some snow possible in brigantine. ocean county, we're seeing the snow moving away as well. nice, gradual clearing as we go through the rest of your morning. the brunt of the snow hitting new england. temperatures atlantic city 32 degrees, 32 in millville, 32 in dover. just remember with the wet roadways we had from this morning's snow and even late last night, we could be seeing icy spots especially in new jersey and delaware. if you're in allentown this morning, 29 degrees right now, 28 in pottstown, 35 currently in philadelphia. here's how your day is going to go. gradual clearing through the day.

coming out of center city area. you can see it's over into the right-hand shoulder. it looks like they may baú @(t&% kpulingkpul i -- pulling away right now. with that lane restriction where we had it over into the shoulder, we does have delays there. definitely seems like they're pulling away now. delays starting to happen on the southbound side. really light now 95 we're starting to see big slowdowns. 259 around route 130 southbound from the 42 freeway into the delaware memorial bridge. only a 22-minute trip. roads look dry. that accident pretty much clear in vineland on 55 southbound near route 56. all lanes re-opened. a new development for america's most famous bald eagles. >> we'll introduce you to the newest eaglets. plus -- >> go cats. >> the sweet sound of victory. yes, indeed.

this. it really didn't take long for me to become a full blown addict. the heroin came later. you know, i did the pain killer thing for a little bit. it just got to the point where that didn't work. i needed something a little stronger. >> doctors say bo's situation isn't all that unusual. some blame the rise in heroin addiction on overprescription of pain killers. earlier this week, the centers for disease control and prevention released new guidelines for providing opiates to the response to the rise in addiction. bo is among nearly 80 people we met with as part of our in-depth look at the epidemic. join reporters vince lattanzio and denise nakano. watch "generation addicted" right here on nbc 10.

now it's time yr your first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> the snow in new jersey and delaware has quickly moved offshore. there you see it off the coast of atlantic county, finally moving out and for ocean county, finally moving away. we are still seeing wet roadways and cold temperatures either at or below freezing in some spots. the brunt of theç storm is hitting new england. we'll be clearing out through the afternoon. 35 degrees, 33 wilmington, lehigh valley though and some of our suburbs north and west in the upper 20s. 29 in doylestown, 28 pottstown. 32 though in atlantic city and millville. lower cape may county seeing temperatures a couple degrees above freezing but then other spots, upper cape may county, sea isle city all coming in at or below freezing. we could be seeing icy spots. same through through parts of atlantic county. through the day, windy, mid-40s by lunch time.

an accident scene out there for quite some time in vineland. again, all lanes are re-opened if you're just watch catching the tail end of that. all lanes a s re-opened. all traffic is getting by. there were delays earlier today. you can still take delsea drive. we are all green lights and good to go there. route 41, no problems, we starting to see the delays there. from the blue route to the vine street expressway, this is around the vine street expressway. we are seeing delays getting on and off of the ramps. also an accident to watch out for on douglass, east philadelphia avenue and swamp pike. let's get a check of some of the other big stories we're following this morning. >> st. joe's will not be going to the sweet 16. a late st. joe's turnover helped the ducks eliminate the hawks

69-64. villanova, though, still dancing after beating iowa yesterday. the wildcats play miami in the sweet 16 thursday night in louisville. and today's day two of president obama's historic visit to cuba. the president will meet with cuban leader raul castro. he's also expected to speak candidly with cuban officials about human rights. the fbi is looking into threats against donald trump's sister and one his sons. sources tell nbc news mary ann trump berry, a federal judge in philadelphia received a death threat in the çmail. eric trump received an envelope with white powder which turn out to be harmless. in montgomery county, nbc 10 cameras saw big flakes fluttering to the ground overnight in hatboro. it didn't stick exactly but did leave the roads wet. farther north in warminster, bucks county, snow flakes coated
